Why Old Loft Insulation Needs Removing
Insulation works by trapping air. Once that structure breaks down, it stops insulating — and in some cases it starts causing problems of its own.
Damp and condensation
Plymouth's coastal climate means roof spaces see a lot of moisture. Old insulation that has been damp loses its thermal performance entirely, and in bad cases it can hold water against timbers and encourage rot. If the insulation is wet, it needs to come out before any new material goes in.
Compaction and settling
